For one week I invite a small group of students for a tutored workshop in my studio. A bright, calm space in North London filled with natural light and all my materials
Encrusted tins of household paint. Drops of ink. Weathered brushes. Assorted lengths of pencil colours. A licence to dip in and play, explore unregulated ways of drawing.
Illustrating aspects of the natural world that excite and ignite you (and if you’re not sure what they are, that will be open to discovery). Making marks, creating tools, building images, exploring colour, drawing from life, intuitive and abstract image-making – processes from my own creative practice.
Reigniting a playful approach to begin, and removing self-imposed barriers. We’ll then take sketchbooks out on location for a day, returning to the studio spilling over with inspiration and wild drawings. These will inform the development of expressive illustrations over the remaining days.
By the end of the week, you’ll have taken your creative practice to another level. You’ll be fired up to propel you forwards to continue your own personal or professional work. You’ll leave with arm-fulls of exciting images, whether in sketchbooks or on many sheets of paper and you’ll have worked up a series of concepts into final artworks.
