Drawing on the shifting seasons as inspiration for each workshop series, this term takes a look at the colours, shapes and produce of the spring months – the emergence of new life as the winter chill departs. A time of rejuvenating growth, a freshness of colour and the sense of summer on its way, this course explores different ways of representing the natural world in a spring-time urban environment.
Over the course of eight sessions we will focus on a range of drawing and painting techniques including watercolour, ink, coloured pencil, printmaking and mixed media, filling sketchbooks with expressive drawings of nature. Beginning with an exploration of seasonal colour palettes as the starting point for every course, we will build a playful and experimental approach to painting, pattern and mark-making before moving on to more representational depictions of the natural world.
These regular sessions are designed to develop a low-pressure sketchbook practice, explore new ideas and techniques and build a regular creative habit that can fit around the demands of work, family life and other responsibilities.
With a small group of just six students, there is the chance for really in-depth teaching and individual feedback, allowing each participant to explore the subjects and materials that most interest them.
Suitable for any level, from complete beginners wanting to try something new to professionals looking for creative, playful inspiration.
